Looking for a challenge? After cycling along portions of the Oregon Trail, this ride turns into one of the best climbs within an hour of Portland, and with elevation gains of over 3,000 feet, you’re sure to get in a good workout. With beautifully shaded forests, remote roads, unparalleled views of Mt. Hood and a bomb back down Lolo Pass Road, there’s no question why this is one of the favorite rides for serious cyclists in Mt. Hood Territory. After 5.8 miles on the Barlow Trail road, you’ll merge with Lolo Pass road where your real climb begins. Just before mile 9, take a right on Muddy Fork (FS 1828) and make sure to go straight (don’t cross the bridge on the right) at mile 9.5. Just after mile 15, you’ll come to another fork- go left and downhill, which will take you the final 3 miles to Lolo Pass Road. Take a left and enjoy the fruits of your uphill labor with a bomb down Lolo Pass Road and back to the Sandy Ridge Trail System.
