Milwaukie

Imagine a town filled with blooming dogwoods and a cute main street with truly unique attractions. That image you have conjured is Milwaukie, Oregon. Home to world famous Dark Horse Comics, as well as Things from Another World and the Main Street Collectors Mall and Soda Fountain, Milwaukie is a delightful mix of the various cultures that make our region special.

Milwaukie’s riverfront downtown is an easy 30-minute ride from central Portland via the MAX Light Rail Orange Line. Steps away, explore the Milwaukie Station Food Cart Pod, which has over a dozen food trucks. Then quench your thirst across the street at Decibel Sound & Drink, recognized as a top cocktail bar in the Portland area with shareable plates, special tiki nights and an impressive sound system, hence the name.

Owner and chef siblings of Ovation Caribbean Bistro bring authentic Venezuelan and Caribbean dishes to the area, like the patacon (fried plantain-bread sandwich), loads of arepa bowls and sancocho. For classic small-town home cooking, visit Gramma’s Corner Kitchen or head north to Beer Store Milwaukie, a laid-back pub offering pints alongside nachos and its signature Impossiburgers.

An unassuming strip mall is where you’ll find Luna’s Ice Cream and its inventive flavors. The owners named the place after their pup and continue to donate 25% of all Every Doggie Nice Cream sales to the Oregon Humane Society.

Woman-owned Freeman Barrelhouse specializes in whiskey and cocktails. It’s also where you can enjoy local celebrity Chef Gabriel Rucker’s favorite Milwaukie Thai place. Ma-Kin Thai & Sushi next door will deliver to your seat, and Freeman will take care of the dishes.

Beer fans will want to visit the Breakside Brewing SE Taproom, a warehouse fan-favorite where most of Breakside’s beers are crafted before being shipped to destinations around North America. Meet the talented brewers and taste one of the 24 rotating taps at this popular spot.

Grab a cool tee or hat designed by a local artist at Made in Milwaukie, then pick up chocolates from Enchante Chocolatier. Spoke & Word Books is a welcoming place for the community to come together and share ideas. Alongside stories put to paper, you’ll find hyperlocal gifts and goodies.

A one-mile stroll will bring you to Milwaukie Floral & Garden, which regularly offers events, from cocktail and crafting classes to Creators and Curators Markets. Visit the Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Store to peruse every Oregon-made product Bob’s sells — from granola to alternative flours.
