Events in Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory offer year-round festivals and activities for the whole family in the greater Portland area. Winter’s event calendar is full of snowboarding and skiing events at Timberline Lodge & Ski Area and Mt. Hood Skibowl, plus holiday happenings at Christmas tree farms. Spring events burst upon the scene with blooming flowers and baby farm animals galore. Summertime is filled with an abundance of outdoor activities, festivals, music events, and Farmers' Markets. Celebrate the fall bounty as local communities provide family fun harvest festivals, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and haunted trails. The Clackamas County Fairgrounds & Event Center offers a variety of events throughout the year, including the Clackamas County Fair and Rodeo. On view September 7-28, "THEY SAID. Workplace Netherworlds & Other Stories" features local artist Daria Loi with artworks that explore workplace bullism, patriarchy, mobbing and betrayal – and the solitude, sadness and rage that comes with them. Drawing from her experiences as a high tech executive, the artist created work that is intimate, dark, uncomfortable, deeply earnest and unapologetic. "After two decades in high tech, I found myself with an immense repertoire of stories that highlight the sordid underbelly of silicon valley and techno-centric organizations." says Daria Loi "I also found I had much to process, digest, move away from and say out loud. So I made art to process and, frankly, scream." The artworks in this exhibit tell harsh, hard to fathom stories that the artist experienced and reflects on – from proteges' betrayals to psychotic managers, queen bee syndrome sufferers and shameless patriarchal behaviors. Artworks have been created by leveraging diverse media.

Ice cream. Water fights. Peeing in the ocean and nobody knows. A boy’s handwritten list to cheer up his despondent mother becomes a surprisingly funny and poignant ode to humanity. This one-person show starring Jayson Shanafelt (One Man Two Guvnors, The 39 Steps, Harvey) takes audiences on a transcendent and tender coming-of-age journey that reminds us to pay attention to life’s smallest joys — and to each other. With lots of audience participation, each performance is an entirely different experience. Come and enjoy! And then, enjoy again!

Each community's market is as unique as the towns themselves, and all showcase the impressive bounty available in Oregon. Saunter past booths highlighting local produce, prepared foods, specialty drinks and local honey. Roam aisles of brightly colored flowers, handmade products and arts and crafts. Arrive on bike, foot or by car, and bring your appetite and basket ready to fill up on fresh, local veggies and fragrant fruits.

This exhibit will explore how Native Americans have used knowledge, creativity, and ingenuity to solve problems for thousands of years, and continue to do so today. Participants will be invited to try their own hand at engineering, while learning from examples of traditional Indigenous technologies related to housing, travel, tools, recreation, resource management, and more. This program is offered by the Museum of Natural and Cultural History as part of the 2024 Summer Reading Program.
