The fantastic breweries and cideries at the base of Mt. Hood are all relatively close together, but with so many recreation opportunities in the area, we know you’d be hard pressed to make it to all of them in a day. So we’ve broken Mt. Hood into separate itineraries for Estacada and Sandy and included more ways for you to enjoy these charming mountain communities – and all of the beauty they offer!
Visit Estacada on a Friday-Sunday to discover great beer and cider with the Tap Trail. Start your day exploring Milo McIver State Park. Hike forest trails or rent kayaks or SUPs from Clackamas River Outfitters’ rental location inside the park at Estacada Lake.
Located about a mile away from Milo McIver State Park's entrance, Bent Shovel Brewing’s welcoming outdoor beer garden makes it the perfect post-paddle stop. Enjoy refreshing ales and lagers made with many locally sourced ingredients. Use the Tap Trail to get $5 off your purchase of $20 or more, so you can enjoy beers in the garden or grab some to go.
From Bent Shovel, you’ll want to head into downtown Estacada for a bite to eat. Favorite lunch stops include Harmony Baked for baked goods, Granny’s Drive-Thru for old fashioned burgers and milkshakes or a new food cart pod next to Clackamas River Outfitters that’s bursting with variety and flavor. While you’re downtown, be sure to admire the public murals. There are over 20 decorating the town, with a new mural painted every year! Stop in to the Spiral Gallery for even more local art.
Once you’ve had a bite to eat, head out of town to Stone Circle Cider’s on-farm cidery. Stone Circle embraces the English style of cider-making, producing “scrumpy” style ciders with local apples and fruits. Their cidery tasting room has a cozy English feel, complete with walls lined with information about the history of cider-making. Outside, they have picnic table seating around their picture-perfect, spring-fed pond, plus lots of room for families to play and, new this year, a bocce ball court! Use the Tap Trail for a buy one, get one half off growler fill.
Drive time to Clackamas River Growlers: eight minutes
Back in downtown Estacada, Clackamas River Growlers offers a whole host of local beers, cider and Kombucha on tap. You’ll want to make this your final stop though, because Clackamas River Growlers is a Tap Trail redemption station! Once you have visited 10 of the 15 breweries, cideries and distilleries that participate in the program, you’ll earn a Mt. Hood Territory stainless steel pint glass. And if you’re looking for instant gratification, you can stop in to Clackamas River Growlers to pick it up right away! To claim your pint glass, show your completed pass to the staff there. And of course, you’ll probably want to stick around and enjoy a pint to reward yourself for all that hard work! Note: Clackamas River Growlers is not a participating Tap Trail deal location.
Sandy’s Cascadian architecture and amazing natural surroundings make every minute there feel like an adventure. With outfitters and rental shops for summer and winter sports, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors, as well as stroll through town for some fabulous dining and brews. To make it to both of Sandy’s fantastic breweries, plan your visit for Tuesday–Saturday, in the afternoon.
Boring Brewing got its name, and its start, in Boring, Oregon. But it’s now located in Sandy with their tap room and production facility located just off Hwy 26. Their friendly and passionate brewing team is always happy to talk about their latest project. They don’t have food available, but they welcome outside food (we recommend stopping at Sandlandia Food Carts and bringing your meal along). Use the Tap Trail at Boring Brewing with a friend for buy one, get one free tastings. New in 2021, Boring Brewing also operates the Boring Beer Garden at Mt. Hood Center, where they have beer, food carts and live music in the summer on Sundays. Note: The Tap Trail pass can only be used at their Sandy location.
