Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory represents the political
entity which is Clackamas County. While Clackamas County
is part of the Portland metropolitan area, it is dotted
with unique, charming towns and communities that no
traveler will want to miss. The towns of Clackamas
County are as diverse as its geography. Barlow, the
smallest city in the County, boasts 125 inhabitants.
It is named for the historic home of the original Barlow
family, who settled there after carving the last stretch
of the Oregon Trail. One of the largest towns is historic
Oregon City, with a population of 26,022. As it welcomed
the early settlers at the end of their 2,000 mile journey,
current-day Oregon City welcomes visitors to view its
Oregon Trail and Oregon Territory museums, and to stay
awhile on the quiet Willamette River. Several thousand
feet upward, the villages of Mt. Hood offer cool, mountain
air, green forests, and year-round skiing. The 185-store
Clackamas Town Center Mall is a tax-free shopping paradise.
These things mean good news for all visitors to Oregon's
Mt. Hood Territory; you are only minutes from Portland,
but you can be as close to, or as far from the city
as your heart desires.
